An Overview Of Fitness And Health Facts



Fitness is far more than having a well-muscled body or lifting weights in your spare time. Fitness is defined by most people as being muscular or being able to run a marathon, but fitness is far more than just one facet of life. A broader definition of fitness is good health. Taking appropriate actions to ensure that your body, mind and spirit all are operating at the highest level means you are placing fitness at the top of your life priorities.

* There are many facets to fitness. The obvious ones are physical fitness, mental fitness and emotional fitness. Most people forget about the mental fitness and emotional fitness and just concentrate on the physical fitness. Even when they focus on physical fitness, they usually don't consider the part played by nutrition, drinking water or cleansing the skin. Yet, they all enter into the realm of physical fitness. It is important that all the aspects of physical body be balanced in order to be fit. To be clean doesn't provide fitness any more than eating nutritionally balanced meals.

* Eating properly is a part of physical fitness, because your body must be operating at peak efficiency in order to be physically fit. Weight management is a part of the fitness characteristics. A person who is physically fit will not be overweight or overly thin. A person can weigh in at a level that is appropriate to age, height and gender and still not be physically fit, however. So, eating a diet that includes all the appropriate vitamins and minerals in moderate amounts is a quality found in a person who is physically fit. Drinking water is another factor that should be part of your fitness routine.

* Appropriate exercise is certainly a factor in the person who is physically fit. This includes working the large muscle groups and also doing activities that increase the heart rate. Oxygenating the blood helps the brain to operate more efficiently. The lung capacity is improved and the effective working of the lymphatic system helps to eliminate the poisons and toxins from the system.

* It is fairly easy to measure physical fitness through various tests and rating scales. It may be somewhat more difficult to determine if you have achieved mental fitness. It may be even more difficult to measure emotional fitness. Mental fitness could be considered to be the intelligence of the individual and whether they are able to use their intelligence in ways that make sense to a sector of the population.

* Emotional fitness is the ability to appreciate the beauty of the world in the small things. Achieving calmness and relaxation may be the best possible indication that the individual is has achieved a state of emotional fitness.

Fitness is best considered as a symptom rather than a practice. It is easy to lose sight of the reason for exercising and trying to stay healthy. Maintain a good balance in the various facets of the fitness regimen and you can be said to have achieved fitness.
