How To Find A Good Personal Trainer

Choosing a good personal trainer can be a headache. Even if the personal trainers are qualified, no two trainers are alike because there are many factors to be taken into consideration besides paper qualification and experience.

Anyone can claim to be a personal trainer a good way to judge the skills of the PT is in the type and amount of education he or she had. Ideally, your PT should have a bachelor or higher degree in exercise physiology, physical education, health and wellness or sports medicine. The degree from a recognized institution will infer that the PT has in-depth knowledge about exercise, nutrition and the mechanics of the body including being able to provide you safe and reliable instructions.

If your trainer do not have a degree, then the minimum would be a certification from an accredited institution. Good certifying authorities would require the trainer to pass both a written and a practical exam. Furthermore, the institutions would require the trainer to fulfill continuing education as a condition of renewal of his/her certification.

The amount of experience that a personal trainer has is an indication of quality. In addition their previous experience, you should observe their level of knowledge and competency during the training sessions.

A good physical fitness coach must be a good observer and should watch your every movement during your workout sessions, correcting your form whenever necessary. He or she should also be able to watch out for signs and symptoms of dehydration and over exertion and able to take corretive action.

Good commnication skill is a great asset a PT should possess. Your trainer should be able to clearly communicate the exercise requirements and any other information you need to know such as nutritional requirements. You must feel comfortable disclosing any relevant physiological or psychological issues that might have an impact your training or results.

Good personal trainers are also good motivators. They use positive reinforcements, humor and excellent human social skills to motivate their clients to achieve their stated objectives. They should motivate by constructive correction as opposed to negative criticism and are able to inject qualities such as confidence, optimism and passion into their clients.

They themselves too must be in tip top physical condition. If your trainer himself is not in shape, then how is he going to convince you that he can help you to do so?

If there are so many things to look out for when hiring a good sports coach, then why is there the need to hire one in the first place? This is because if you are able to choose a good personal trainer, there are many benefits.

Since he/she is a professional, your instructor can develop a customize a nutrition and exercise program that is unique for you as no two persons are physically alike and everyone will have different objectives and goals.

Your trainer can also give you undivided attention to ensure perfect technique for every exercise so as to get the best result in the shortest time and avoiding exercise related injuries.

Best of all, when you start to see steady results, both of you will not only be on an instructor and client basis, but could even become firm friends. I know this as many of my former clients are now good personal friends. However, you need a personal trainer with all the above qualities for this to happen.
