Lose Weight Efficiently by Joining the Gym
Spending time reading glossy gossip magazines with thin celebrities can often mean that we have unrealistic and distorted targets and goals in terms of our own weight and size. For a start, most of the women and men in these magazines have been airbrushed, meaning that their body size is unachievable and totally unrealistic for the average person.
When it comes to setting your own goals the best place to start is by looking at the BMI (Body Mass Index) chart. Although this is not 100% foolproof (most rugby players would come up as obese) it’s a great indicator to whether you are in the healthy weight range for your height.
Most exercise regimes would advise you to set a target for within the ‘healthy’ weight range, which is between 20 and 25 on the BMI scale. Losing weight is not rocket science and reducing your fat and calorie intake whilst increasing levels of exercise will result in weight loss and a healthier lifestyle.
Intense diets that severely restrict your intake of any of the food groups can leave you hungry and lacking in the drive necessary to reach targets. With most you will find you lose weight quickly to begin with and then it will plateaux, meaning you are not losing weight efficiently. It is recommended that you lose 2 pounds per week; this is a safe and healthy amount to lose and means you will keep it off better too!
So why go to the gym?
Motivation is the magic word when it comes to continuing toward reaching the weight loss goal that you desire. Unfortunately, when we weigh at home (in the morning, naked, before breakfast of course!) we can skew the measurements, over weigh and become un-motivated, especially if we don’t see the results we desire.
To increase motivation, you can firstly set a routine that you are comfortable with, designed for you by a personal trainer, then to help stop boredom (which can happen) you can change your routine at the gym as your goals change and develop. Don’t rush into things; get a gauge for your fitness levels before attempting intense exercise.
Whether your goal is to lose weight, tone up, get fit, or remain healthy you have to keep things fresh and exciting. Jumping on the exercise bike again can seem like a chore, so join a spinning class instead. Running on the treadmill can be tedious and most gyms have running groups to join. You can mix up your fitness programme to suit your mood; don’t get stuck in a routine rut!
Joining a health club and gym means that you can get professional advice to shape your targets into realistic outcomes. It also means you have the support system there to help you when you simply can’t be bothered! In addition, there is a real community feel to be found in many gyms, as everyone has the same goal in the end – to be healthy! Get a hat-trick by losing weight and looking great too.
