Fight Through Feelings With Kung Fu Movies

If you find yourself in need of a quick pick-me-up, perhaps you should consider kung fu movies. It is the ultimate battle of good vs. Evil where the righteous always come out on top.

In less broad strokes, many people are drawn to the kung fu sub-genre of action films because of, well, all the action. Frequently, martial artists serve as the heroes and villains in these movies, using their unique skills to provide an impressive show of fighting choreography. Kung fu provides a beautiful show of physical prowess while at the same time remaining fluid and well thought out.

People are drawn to characters in the kung fu because of what they represent. Both the good and the bad guys remain true to the virtues of honor and loyalty, even if from slightly different perspectives. They understand the importance of sticking up for the little guy and are not unwilling to lose their own lives in the struggle against oppression.

True kung fu, according to Confucius, is more about a philosophy than a means to an end. He saw martial arts as a way to achieve the discipline and harmony of body and mind necessary to achieve righteousness in the world outside. The practice of this specific form of martial art, as with others, is more about finding balance in action and thought than it is about conquering your enemy with your fists.

First introduced in the late 1920s, the genre has seen a number of evolutions in the way it is presented to the public. Many of the first kung fu movies concentrated more on the physical aspects of kung fu as well as remaining true to the accepted slap-stick writing present in most movies of the time.

The more modern interpretations of the genre have led to an increased use of CGI as well as opening up the acting jobs to more than just kung fu artists. Many of the newer versions also seem to have made more of an effort to focus on complex plot and character development. Of course, this is not to say that strong stories were not ever used in the past, nor are they important to all new movies either.

Not sure where to get started? A few of the more notable figures in kung fu movies are Bruce Lee, Gordon Liu, Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and more recently Tony Jaa and Scott Adkins. Each artist brings with him a new way to interpret kung fu and provides their own unique style to the movie. More recently, women have made a more notable appearance in movies as well. Though, if you look into kung fu history, their impact is anything but new. Women have and will continue to play a large role in spreading the genre and philosophy around the world.

The spread of this genre has been seen around the world. Audiences are drawn to the genre in mass. These movies provide not only a brief escape for viewers, but can leave them with overall sense of happiness. These movies illustrate the important relationships people have with their life styles and philosophies and help to underscore the importance of remaining true to ones convictions. Nothing is so disheartening as feeling the whole world is out to get you and that strength and courage do not always sow the much sought after rewards. Kung fu movies can help you see the world in a more positive light by reminding the viewer that life is cyclical and that good things come to those who propagate good and that life, though unpredictable, gives each and every one of us the opportunity to practice what we preach.
