Stopping Puppies From Chewing

It is but normal that puppies chew on anything but there are things that a puppy has to avoid and these could cost him his health, his life, and a lot more that are inside your house. There are several ways on stopping puppies from chewing and they are listed below for your reference:

Help him avoid electrical wires: These are things that are hazardous; electrical wires, when not seen as damaged can spark a fire caused by short circuitry on appliances in your home. Do not allow him to go near these wires as they are so inviting for a puppy once seen lying on the floor. Make sure that wires are not left hanging or lying on the floor as the pets do not know what it is for. Keep them hidden at the back of the appliance for safety.

Chew toys: Stopping puppies from chewing can be done by giving them toys to chew on; there are a lot of good buys at pet shops to divert their attention to. Other toys will help in teaching them new tricks. Once you see the puppy chewing, give them a good toy where they can chew their hearts out. Toy bones would be perfect; balls are good options, too.

Make use of bitter apple: Dogs never like the taste of bitter apple.

Applying bitter apple on the things they like to chew on will avert them from doing so. You have to follow directions on the label for good results. This wise alternative is not cheap enough but the price it has to pay is way below the damage it would cause him and your property.

Chili: This spice can help in stopping puppies from chewing. The smell and the taste are hated by canines. This substance can make them stop chewing and digging as well.

Make other toys available: Put toys inside a puppy’s crate or cage and let him practice his chew habits inside his home. Training him to chew on things inside his house would educate him that things outside his house are not supposed to be chewed, except for food.

Reprimand a puppy: For every wrong deed, reprimand him at any cost. Punish him as well for any chewing activity and make it clear that he has to follow your house rules and regulations.

These are just several of the things that a pet owner has to look out in as you aim stopping puppies from chewing. It takes a good command, some punishments, and a reward for a puppy to be trained. Some people would laugh at the sight of things that were chewed by these pets but for some who treasure things that they have saved and bought for, this is not funny at all.

Try to be firm: A pet owner has to be consistent in every decision regarding rewards and punishments are concerned. This is one good start to train your puppies to be obedient and the rest will just follow. It would be nice to know if you have a pet that your guests and neighbors would envy.
