Host: Welcome back to our hot topic segment. Today, we are joined by Lisa Scott, the author of It’s All About Him and we are discussing the hottest topics right now with Halloween just a couple of days away. I found this article and I want to get your thoughts on it. Used to be kids swarming neighborhoods, out trick or treating in their costumes, neighborhoods decorating, making mock graveyards in the yard. Now, parents are taking their kids to these safer areas. They’re taking them to church parking lots, to malls. Lisa: Organized areas to trick or treat. Host: Yes, organized areas where they feel kids will be much more safe. They don’t want to just let the kids go. Like go in the neighborhood. They don’t want to do that anymore. They want to keep them in these safe areas. What do you think about this? Is it overly—being overly cautious or what do you think? Lisa: Yes, I can understand the importance of being overly cautious but it kind of loses the spontaneity of Halloween and what it’s all about or the spirit of Halloween. Perhaps parents could still take their kids trick or treating but just accompany them to the different areas so that’s interesting I think sometimes we over—go overboard. Host: Yes, so they’re saying neighborhoods this year might be a little empty. Lisa: Interesting. Host: But you know what are some hot Halloween costumes for adults this year. There’re some controversial ones that we’re seeing. Yes, one of them is the illegal alien costume. Now, this costume is an orange jumpsuit and then an alien mask over it, with illegal alien printed across the front. These are sold at some of the very popular stores and groups are saying pull those off the shelves, people should not be wearing them. Lisa: I also have seen the pig costumes are big this year. And you want to know why, it’s because of the swine flu. People are dressing up as—they’re wearing the pig ears and the nose to represent the swine flu. Host: Wow, and I bet pig farmers are not happy with this because they have said from the beginning, do not call it swine flu. Call it H1N1. Lisa: Don’t associate it, exactly. Host: But people are really dressing up as pigs. That is so funny. Lisa: And Bernie Madoff, a lot of Bernie Madoff masks are out there, the guy that swindled everybody out of their money. Vampires are big this year because of True Blood. I love True Blood. Host: I love True Blood too. What a great show and also of course Twilight. We have New Moon coming out soon in a few weeks so vampires are going to be very big this year. But those aren’t as controversial as dressing—and another thing that’s very hot this year, Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett. What do you think about that? Do you think it’s appropriate to dress up as people who’ve recently passed away or is that okay? Lisa: I think if you’re honoring them and you’re respectful, yes, I think so. I think as long as you keep it respectful. Host: Yes, because there’s definitely a way you could go the opposite route. Lisa: Right, you don’t want to do that. Host: Be very, very disrespectful. Another thing people are—that’s a little controversial this year is some of the teen costumes that teens are dressing up as, a little risqué. You know, the short short skirts. They’re dressing up as maids or nurses. Lisa: They’ve become--the Halloween costumes have become it’s like an excuse to dress up really provocatively and it’s fun to a certain extent but at what age do you draw the limit. Host: That’s the question. If you’re an adult, maybe you can get away with a little bit but do you want your tween or teen dressing up— Lisa: I wouldn’t. Host: Yes. You’ve got to ask if that’s really appropriate but I mean I guess if people want to do it. Lisa: Yes. Host: Alright, thank you so much for joining us for our hot topic segment. This is so fun. Halloween just a couple of days. Lisa: Thank you. Host: What are you dressing up as? Lisa: I’m going to be a vampire. Host: You are, beautiful. Thank you so much Lisa for joining us today.
