Truth is, some houses are made for entertaining and the 2008 HGTV dream home in Islamorada 
Florida is one of them.  So if you’re serious about socializing, there’s no better place to get tips 
on how to create the perfect entertainment room and here’s what you need to get this bright 
beachy room.  Natural colors and textures, great views and a flexible way out.  Okay, want a 
little bit of the beach in your neck of the woods?  Start off with crisp white walls and then layer 
on the textures and patterns.  In this room, most materials have a natural feel.  Wicker club 
chairs, a jute rug and seashell accessories.  Even the easy to clean wood floors seem to invite the 
elements in.  remember accessories can add textures too.  The chrome reading lamps keep the 
room from getting too beachy by introducing a slightly industrial feel.  While the glass coffee 
tables and the cute metal ladders reflect light and keep the room from feeling too heavy.  So 
how can you tell this room is made for entertaining, look at the way it’s laid out.

There’s ample flexible seating.  These club chairs are comfortable and light.  They’re also easy to 
move which makes them perfect for board game night or big game night.  The same goes for the 
coffee table which is actually four smaller tables put together to form a large piece.  Separate 
them if you need more floor space or a place to put your popcorn on movie night.  Built in 
speakers and recessed lighting are frequent guests in entertainment rooms because they serve a 
function without getting in the way which of course means more room for partying.  Now one 
thing that’s always tricky in designing a media room is where to put the TV, without making it 
the center of attention because hey, every night isn’t Monday night football.  Use large scale art 
to balance the wall that the TV’s on.  Go for something subtle, you don’t it want to compete 
with what’s on the screen.  One more thing, this room has a cool seaside feel.  If you want to 
warm things up a bit, simply change your color scheme.  A palate of reds and oranges will do 
the trick and don’t forget to add dark wood furniture piece to help keep the room feeling 
grounded.  So there you have it, the perfect entertainment room no matter where you live.
