How Encourage Innovation within Business Vince: Hi, welcome to DogandPony.com. I’m Vince Thompson. Frank Addante is five times started founder and he was guided one of his companies to IPL and two others to sales. Now he is working full time to put some serious cash into your pocket. How? He is the CEO and co-founder of the Rubicon project, a company helping web publishers, big and small to better monetize their online of assets through advertising. Frank tells us about Rubicon project, what is it that you do? Frank: We are an the internet of advertising technology company. We created this category called Ad network optimization. The short version of what we do is we help a web site and make more money from their unsold ad space while eliminating all the work that they have to do in managing ad networks. And today’s internet has change up to 80% of any websites adding monitor can go unsold by their websites directly and that unsolved of that space goes to anywhere from three to four hundred added networks. Their router establishing relationships of the advertisers and we check out all that confusion and we have this guys make more money. Vince: So, that is your greater mission is making it easier for the advertisers to spend their money online. Frank: Our mission as team, it is too keep the internet free and feels it growth by making advertising an effortless source of income for publishers. So imagine an internet where publishers couldn’t make money from the advertiser. Like bloggers cannot leave their jobs. Besides it like my space that may not exist because they wouldn’t and have it in other string. So what would happen to that internet? Right, would see less services? Would we see less information? Would we have to pay for services on the internet? So that short of the, you know, the more of global mission of the company. Vince: So, you are 31 year old guy drop out of the college and success with five companies. Its very interesting story, what is that and how you could get the entrepreneurial spirit in your blood? Frank: When I was in college. I think it was just that you have had to drive it too innovate and to try and to do something new. Yeah, I did – I never really considered myself in entrepreneur entire recently. But what I’d enjoy most is working with the team and I feel like, you know, anything that this team does we can accomplish and be successful with. And community is something that is really important to our cultures. So, we do community service today regularly. And this team works with the same level of tonicity and focus in ambition that they do and doing this community service students that they do with the company. So its, I think its really of the team part of that that tries me. Vince: How do you create a culture of innovation? Frank: First, you have to commit to it, right. And you make it a priority. We have eleven values that we govern of governor company buy. The first one is innovation. Its injected into the veins of everyone in the company. The second is to make sure that you have enough capital to invest of innovation. Technology is expensive. So, again that is one of reasons that we want out to raise $22 million dollars. In terms of the culture the only way to truly innovate us to make mistakes. Vince: Great business that growing a 100% a month. What scares you? Frank: As you grows and as you have more wings. It makes it more difficult to celebrate in some of the smaller wings. So we have almost become a little bit immune to some of this success. And we can’t continue to grow at 100% of every month, right. That is unrealistic. As we bring new people into the company that having been here for, you know, the three months to six months who can’t enjoy of closing a big deal as an example. You know, there first month of being here and they have to start with the smaller idea and then a medium size of idea. Well, the teams appreciate it and celebrate that little wing. Vince: Is there anything that you see is bad that’s need to be removed from a business right away and needs to kill. Or is there anything that you – and at the same time is there something that you see that this is absolutely a good consistent team that needs to be part of your business. Frank: The things to focus on are great people and not necessarily of great resume but great people. People that want to win. People that take of pride in their work. People that work well with other people. I think those people will create an incredible and successful organization. And I think that focusing more on that encouraging more of that and promoting more of that and trying to teach more of value in the web team development. I think that’s really people can focus. Vince: Is the future of advertising automated? Would the sales guy survive in the future? Frank: I think a large portion of this that is try to needs to be automated. Can it be completely automated? No. Advertising is also emotional, right. I mean that imagine the times where you seen it so far with your family and have enough kids. And you see a commercial and it makes you cry, it makes you smile but that piece of the business can never be automated. Vince: Frank Addante – CEO and co-founder of Rubicon project.
